Brandon-Evansville opened the Section 6A baseball playoffs in Ashby on Tuesday with a 9-2 victory over the fourth-seeded Arrows.  Bryce Froemming collected three hits and sophomore right hander Landon Sullivan struck out 11 batters in a complete game effort on the mound, walking four and scattering three hits.

“Landon gave us a great performance today on the mound and really mixed his pitches well,” stated B-E Head Coach Brian Perleberg. “He worked ahead in the counts and was focused and poised all game long.”

The Chargers opened the scoring in the first when Kaden Englund singled to drive in a run.

Logan Johnson homered to left field, pulling Ashby even in the bottom of the first.

In the top of the second, the Chargers broke the tie when Froemming doubled, scoring one run, followed by an error which led to another run and a 3-1 lead for the visitors.

Brandon-Evansville extended their lead with four runs in the top of the third, thanks to RBI singles by Lucas Fuller and Hunter Grothen as they built a 7-1 lead.

Ashby got one run back in the bottom of the third when Kellen Dahlen doubled on a line drive to left field which scored Bradley Schroeder.

B-E rounded out the scoring in the fifth on a RBI single by Froemming and a ground out by Sullivan.

“I thought we swung the bats much better today and were smarter on the bases than in our previous matchups with the Arrows,” said Coach Perleberg.  “Being able to score runs in each of the first three innings really helped set the tone and allowed us to stay loose and comfortable.”

Englund had two hits, while Seth Thoennes and Riley Perleberg showed patience at the plate, each drawing a pair of walks and combining to score five runs for B-E.

Brandon-Evansville will now play Parkers Prairie on Thursday at 2:30pm in Clarissa.
