Alexandria split their double header with St. Cloud on Senior Night, winning 5-0 in the opener behind a complete game shutout from Carter Simonson, and falling 11-7 in a back-and-forth battle in game two.

“It was a special night at Knute Nelson as we were able to honor our 12 seniors and their contribution to Alexandria baseball,” noted Head Coach Jacob Munsch.  “A big thanks to coaches and parents for helping organize the evening.  We wish these seniors the best of luck on the next chapter in their lives.”

Seniors being honored were Jordan Kuhnau, Gavin Klimek, Brady Swendsrud, Gage Castle, Caleb Gimbel, Kasen Muscha, Cameron Mercado, Brayden Larson, Sawyer Rumohr, Landon Raths, Cameron Simon and Carter Simonson.

Simonson allowed just 4 hits and 2 walks in the opening game victory, striking out 8 batters.  “Carter showed great resilience throughout the game, working through tough situations,” stated Coach Munsch.  “His defense backed him up throughout the night, helping us get out of jams.  Timely hitting and execution of small ball and base running allowed us to capitalize and score runs.”

Hitting was led by Jordan Kuhnau with 2 singles.  Mercado delivered a double in the game.

In the second game, St. Cloud took a 5-1 lead going into the second inning.  Jordan Kuhnau launched a 3-run home run that knotted the game at 5-5.  Sam Anderson went deep in the top of the third to put the Cards up by one.  In the fifth inning, St. Cloud scored 3 runs to regain the lead.  They added 3 more in the 6th on the way to the 11-7 win.

Landon Gess Norling pitched 5 innings, allowing 8 earned runs on 8 hits and 4 walks, while striking out 6.  Landon Raths and Parker Converse combined to pitch the final inning out of the bullpen.

Offensively, Alexandria collected 9 hits with Kuhnau getting a pair to lead the way once again.

Alexandria will face Sartell on Thursday at 5:00pm at Knute Nelson Field.
