Rothsay Scores 39 Runs in Double Header Sweep on Senior Night

Rothsay swept Ottertail Central in a softball double header on the Tigers Senior Night on Tuesday.  The Tigers won 26-16 and 13-6 over the Bulldogs.  “It was a great night to honor our seniors, Elli Meyer, Kinsey Heier and Madi Tollerud,” said Rothsay Head Coach Anita Heier.  “These three have been great leaders for us this year and tonight was no different.  They all really stepped up and contributed big for us.”

 

OTC jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning of the opener, but Rothsay scored 5 in the bottom of the second to take a 5-3 lead.  OTC regained the lead with 4 in the top of the third and Rothsay answered with 5 in the third to put the score at 10-7.  Both teams scored two runs in the fourth and OTC took a 16-12 lead with 7 runs in the top of the 5th.  Rothsay then erupted for 14 runs in the bottom of the 5th to win by a score of 16-16 in 5 innings.

Meyer (2H, 3RBI), Allison Phillips (2H, 2RBI) and Lydia Umlauf (2H, 2RBI) led Rothsay at the plate. 

In the second game, Rothsay scored 7 runs in the top of the first and 2 more in the top of the second to take a 9-0 lead.  Meyer (2H, 4RBI), McKenzie Tillman (2H, RBI), Umlauf (2H, RBI) and Bethany Danielson (2H, 2RBI) were the offensive leaders in game two.  Kinsey Heier pitched all 7 innings, striking out 11 batters.
