Fergus Falls suffered a tough 11-7 loss in an 8-inning game with Brainerd on Thursday.  “It was a super fun game to be a part of,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Devonie Smith.  “It was a tough loss, but Brainerd always has a strong program and it was great to see your girls come out ready to play from the get-go.  I am so proud of how hard these girls have worked throughout the season and we are continuously making improvements.  It’s fun to watch their confidence grow and see how excited they can get for each other.”

The Otters started off strong, scoring 3 runs in the first two innings to take a 3-0 lead.  Rylynn Krein delivered a run-scoring single in the first and Carlana Zetah and Kendal Hanson had hits and scored runs in the second inning.  Averie Ohren drove in one run and Madi Budke came in with a clutch hit for the other RBI.  Brainerd scored a run in the top of the third and the Otters responded by putting two more runs on the board.  McKenzie Sjolie and Bella Abrahams each scored on a hit to right field by Hanson.  Brainerd cut the lead to 5-4 with 3 runs in the fourth but the Otters extended their lead to 7-4 in their half of the fourth.  Karyssa Eberle singled and scored on a double by Krein.  Sjolie then drove in Krein.  In the top of the 7th inning, the Otters struggled defensively and Brainerd took advantage of the opportunity to tie the game.  The Otters put the ball in play in the bottom of the seventh, but Brainerd played a clean inning and kept the score even.  Brainerd scored four runs in the top of the eighth, again taking advantage of Otter errors to take an 11-7 lead.  Mya Tautges came in to pitch in the bottom of the inning, preventing the Otters from scoring and preserving the win.

Krein (3-4, 2B, 2RBI), Hanson (2-4, 2B, 2RBI) and Zetah (2-4) led the Otters at the plate.  Krein struck out 5 and walked two in the circle.
