The Fergus Falls girls’ golf team finished second to Detroit Lakes on Monday at the Park Rapids Invitational.  The Lakers won the event with a 326 total, 17 better than the Otters who had 343.  Bemidji was third with 366 and Wadena-Deer Creek came in fourth with a stroke total of 383.

Annika Jyrkas recorded the top score of the day, firing a 77 to claim medalist honors for the fourth time this spring.  Annie Mayer was eighth with an 85 and Olivia Jurgens took 12th place with a 90.  Ellie Bergren was sixteenth with a 91, Hanna Bye was 27th with a 98 and Shay Katzenmeyer came in 37th with a 102.

“The Otters were pretty consistent in team scores today,” said Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “Shay and Hanna turned in good scores today.  Ellie and Olivia turned in scores we will use every time.  Ellie shattered her previous best and was very much in control of her golf ball all day.  Annie and Annika were solid!  Annie got the ball in the hole today, but really never got into a rhythm.  Annika got off to a shaky start being 4-over through 6 holes, but showed her maturity and played well the last 12 holes, letting the field come back to her and she sling-shotted right by them to her fourth medalist honor of the year.  Overall, today was a good day in tough conditions.  That wind can beat you down over 5 hours and our girls battled through the elements.  We finished 17 strokes behind the best team in Class AA golf, Detroit Lakes.  At this point in the season we will take that.  We are improving!”

Senior Laura Syltie of DL was runner-up with a 79.  Anna Eckmann of Park Rapids and Tatum Gatheridge of the Lakers tied for third with rounds of 80.  Sydney Miller (83), Sophie Christianson (84) and Hanna Knoop (84) of the Lakers finished 4 through 7.
