The Alexandria girls’ golf team had to settle for a fourth place finish on Tuesday as they hosted a Central Lakes Conference meet at the Alexandria Golf Club.  “Conditions were nice while the girls were warming up, but the rain started soon after the players started their rounds,” said Alexandria Head Coach Timothy Zupfer.  “We had two bouts of very steady rain.  One after about 4 holes of play and another after about 9 holes of play.  Fortunately, the rain ended and the players were able to play the final 6 holes rain free.  By that time, however, players were very wet and cold.  All of the players were troopers and managed to complete all 18 holes.”

Sartell junior Gwen Latunski shared medalist honors with Annika Jyrkas of Fergus Falls as both girls fired rounds of 79.  Third place went to Sophia Karsnia of Brainerd with an 80.  Shayla Nordlund of Sartell was fourth with an 83, Fernanda Ossa of Willmar was fifth with an 84 and Annie Mayer of Fergus Falls came in sixth with an 86.

Ellie Sticha led the lady Cards with an 87, good for 7th place, and Cadence Simon turned in an 89, tying for 10th place.  Kennedy Ellingson had a season best 91, putting her in 14th place and Mattea LeClair tied for 15th with a new personal best score of 94.  Lexi Metcalf 96 and Grace Herzog 98 ended up tied for 19th and 23rd, respectively, to round out the Alexandria scoring.

Brainerd captured the team title with a 346 and Sartell was runner-up at 357.  Third place went to Willmar with a 358, Alexandria was fourth at 361 and the Otters fifth with a 367.  St. Cloud 405 and Rocori 413 completed the team scoring.

“Some of the scores were a little higher, in part due to the tough playing conditions,” added Coach Zupfer. “However, a number of players did have good performances.  A special shout out to the staff and grounds crew at the Alexandria Golf Club.  We appreciate all that they do to support our high school golf teams.”

Alexandria will travel to Sartell on Friday for another CLC meet and on Saturday they will host the Geneva Invitational.  That event begins at 9:30am at The Geneva Golf Club.
