Pelican Rapids and Perham squared off in a Heart O’ Lakes Conference softball double header on Thursday with the lady Vikings coming out on top 7-3 in the first game and winning a 17-16 slugfest in game two.  The Vikings overcame a 3-0 deficit to score 7 straight runs in game one, and in game two they scored 13 runs in the final three innings to come back from a 13-4 deficit and claim the sweep.

“Nice to get a couple of wins over Perham on a very windy day in Pelican,” stated Head Coach Derrick Nelson.  “Zayli Arrow (7IP, 1H, 6K, 3ER) pitched a great game one for us as she only gave up one hit in the contest.  The bats came alive with five hits that led to four runs in the fifth inning.  Game two was an example of why you never give up and keep battling every at bat.  We were down 13-4 and scored two runs on the first career home run by Zayli Arrow in the sixth inning.  The girls had great at bats up and down the lineup in the seventh, scoring seven times to tie the game and then added four more runs in the eighth.  Zayli came on in relief and pitched outstanding.  Perham did get 3 unearned runs in the bottom of the eighth, but with the tying run on third, Miren Thomas made a great running catch to end the game.”

Game one hitting leaders for the Vikings were Hazel Haugrud (3-4, 2R, RBI), Chelsey Blakeway (1-1, 2BB, R), Claudia Gurath (2-4, R, 3RBI), Zayla Arrow (1-3, RBI, R), Arianna Villagomez (1-3, BB, R), Linea Thomas (2-30, Kolbi Ross (1-3, RBI) and Thomas (1-3, R).

Offensive leaders in game two were Gurath (5-7, 2R, 4RBI), Zayli Arrow (3-4, BB, 3R, 2RBI), Zayla Arrow (2-6, 3R, BB, RBI), Villagomez (2-4, 3R, BB, 2RBI), Thomas (4-6, 2R, 2RBI) and Addison Walters (2-3, 2R, 2HBP).

Pelican Rapids will play Ottertail Central at Battle Lake on Friday night.

No Perham stats were reported.
