The Alexandria baseball team traveled to Brainerd Tuesday and came away with two big Central Lakes Conference victories against the Warriors.  The Cards won game one by a score of 14-5 and completed the double header sweep with an 11-9 win in the nightcap.

“The offense set the tone from the beginning as we plated 6 runs in the first inning of game one and continued from there en route to scoring 14 total runs in the game,” reported Head Coach Jacob Munsch

A total of 12 hits were collected with Jordan Kuhnau leading the way with 3, including a 3 run blast to right center.   Landon Gess Norling, Gavin Klimek, Sam Anderson, and Cameron Simon each had two hits in the game with Sawyer Rumohr rounding off the offense with a knock.   Doubles in the game were collected by Cameron Simon (2) Jordan Kuhnau (2) and Sam Anderson.

Carter Simonson picked up the win allowing 0 earned runs on 1 hit.   He struck out 8 and limited free bases by only allowing 3 walks in the game.   Sawyer Rumohr pitched 2 innings allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits.  Landon Gess Norling finished the final innings walking 1 and striking out 2.

“Offense started out hot again in game two scoring 5 runs in the bottom of the first inning,” added Coach Munsch.  “Brainerd responded throughout the game leading to a score of 10-9 going into the final frame.   Execution of small ball and unselfish play allowed our team to scratch runs to cushion our lead to 11 - 9 heading into the seventh.”

The Cardinals were led at the plate by Sam Anderson who collected 3 hits in the game with two of those being doubles.  Jordan Kuhnau, Gavin Klimek, Brody Adelman, and Kasen Muscha each collected hits as well.

Brady Swendsrud picked up the win going 4 innings allowing 7 runs (4 earned) on 7 hits.  He struck out 4 and walked just 3 batters.  Parker Converse relieved Swendsrud going the final 3 innings allowing 2 unearned runs.  He did not give up a hit and struck out 4 batters.

The Cards continue their busy week heading to Sartell on Thursday for a tough CLC match up again, then round off the week Friday with a home game vs. Detroit Lakes.
