Knights Wrestling Awards
The West Central Area/Ashby/Brandon-Evansville Knights varsity wrestling team put together a great season. They earned a total of 375 wins, 2295 team points, 207 falls, 8 tech falls, 24 major decisions, a 64 % bonus point percentage, a 55% fall percentage, and compiled a team record of 19-9. As a team they placed 3rd at the GCT, 3rd at the Monticello Invite, 35th at the Rumble on the Red, and 2nd in the WCC/CMC Conference Tournament. The team made the semi-finals in the Section 6A tournament however they lost by a minimal margin to the eventual section champs BHV-PP. The Knights also do well in the classroom earning the MWCA Silver Award and accumulating an average team GPA of 3.463!
Six Knights were named West Central All-Conference. They are Owen Gruchow (127), Solomon Wales (160), Ezekiel Sieckert (172), Jeremy Blascyk (189), Freddi Munoz (215) and Will Rustan (285).
Gruchow, Blascyk, Rustan and Adam Lohse (145) were Section 6A individual champions, while Wales, Sieckert and Evan Dingwall (114) all placed third in Section 6A.
Gruchow, Lohse, Blascyk, Rustan and Lucea Wales all qualified for the State meet. All-State honors went to Wales, with a 6th place finish at 124 pounds, Gruchow with a 6th place at 127 and Rustan with a runner-up finish at 285.
Individual award winners were Terina Blascyk (Manager of the Year, Logan Haburn (JV Hardest Worker), Brock Brunkow (JV Most Improved), Logon Long (JV Most Valuable), Jeremy Blascyk (Knights Team Spirit), Cristian Ponce Espinoza (Rookie Wrestler of the Year), Owen Gruchow (Most Exciting Wrestler), Nathan Brethorst (Most Improved), Solomon Wales (Hardest Worker) and Will Rustan (Most Valuable). Brandi Gruchow was named Fan of the Year!
