On a brutally windy and cold day, the Otter Boys Golf team opened up their season with a 4th place finish out of 9 teams in their first Central Lakes Conference meet of the year. The Otters are the only AA team in the conference, competing against much larger schools who all compete in AAA.

Sartell won the meet at their home course with a 307, followed by Alexandria with a 315, and Brainerd with a 323.

“I am super impressed with these boys. As far as the conditions went, this was the hardest high school golf tournament I’ve ever seen,” said Otter head coach Matt McGovern. “The course had been soaked with rain the previous few days and the wind was howling, they all competed hard and showed some true grit out there,” McGovern added.

Individually, the Otters were led by Riley McGovern who shot an 81, good enough for 9th place overall. Adam Kennedy and Quintin Kuehl each shot 83, and Gavin Goepferd rounded out the scoring with an 85. Ryan Nelson (87), and Simon McGovern (90), also competed for the Otters. Sartell junior, Carson Andel, won the tournament individually with a 73.

The boys have their next competition in another CLC meet on Monday at Rich Springs, hosted by ROCORI.
