The Hawley Nuggets traveled east down Highway 10 for a non-conference high school baseball contest versus the Lake Park-Audubon Raiders at Audubon Park on Monday. On a cool, cloudy, windy afternoon for baseball, the Nuggets wound up on the winning side of a 16-1 ballgame.

The Nuggets scored seven first inning runs. LPA plated a run and later loaded the bases with one out in the bottom of the first, but back-to-back solid defensive plays by the Hawley defense snuffed out the Raiders' threat. The Nuggets used a pair of four run innings as well as a one-running inning to round out the scoring. Cael Kosmatka (5IP, 1ER, 3H, 2BB, 6K) earned the win on the mound for the Nuggets. Jayden Ambuehl, Brody Hadley, Tommy Slette, Payton Highness, and Hayden Rux each had a pair of RBI to pace the offense. Kale Thompson took the loss for LPA. Tyson Nerdahl (1-2, RBI), Troy Nerdahl, and Jacob Nelson each had one hit for the Raiders.

"Anytime you're on the road and you can put up a big number in the top of the first inning, that usually bodes well for a team's starting pitcher," Hawley coach Beau Lofgren said. "Kosmatka challenged hitters, we played well in the field behind him, and everyone in uniform got into the game. Thanks to LPA for moving our game up a day to avoid the rain on Tuesday."

The Nuggets (2-1) will host Staples-Motley on Friday afternoon at 5:00pm at the Rodeo Grounds in Hawley. LPA (2-2) takes on Bertha-Hewitt/Verndale on Thursday at 4:30pm in Audubon.
