Alexandria Wins CLC Girls Golf Meet at Rich Hills, Otters Take 4th

The Alexandria girls’ golf team won their first Central Lakes Conference meet of the season on Monday, posting a score of 356 at the Rich Springs Golf Club to defeat Brainerd by one stroke. Sartell was two strokes back with a 358 and Fergus Falls placed fourth with a 372.  Willmar 381, St. Cloud 389, Rocori 393 and Sauk Rapids-Rice 432, rounded out the team scoring.

 

“The playing conditions were quite good for mid-April with a 60 degree temperature and a moderate wind,” reported Alexandria Head Coach Tim Zupfer.  “The girls were able to prevail in a very competitive competition.”

Shayla Nordlund of Sartell was the medalist with a 79.  Fergus Falls senior Annika Jyrkas and junior Annie Mayer shared second place with rounds of 82.  Rachel Brown of Alexandria was fourth with an 84 and Sophia Karsnia of Brainerd took fifth with an 85.

Shay Katzenmeyer came in with a 103, Olivia Jurgens and Averie Tonneson recorded rounds of 105 and Hannah Johnson shot a 110 for the Otters.

“Hannah and Averie earned their first opportunity to play varsity and had nice under control rounds,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Ben Jurgens.  “Annika played some fantastic holes in that strong wind and Annie really stood out with 8 pars and 10 Bogies.  Very consistent, played very smart golf.”

The Fergus Falls JV team took second at the Territory Golf Course, led by Ava Thompson’s 48 in the 9-hole tournament.

Ellie Sticha (87) and Grace Herzog (89) joined Bowen with top ten finishes for the lady Cardinals with Sticha taking seventh and Herzog ninth place.  Cadence Simon, Haley Srock and Kennedy Ellingson all recorded scores of 96 for Alexandria.
