The Breckenridge Cowboys fell to the Upsala/Swanville Patriots 11-5 at Cowboy field Monday night. Jaxson Riggs started on the mound for the Cowboys and threw 3.1 innings allowing 3 ER and striking out 4. Upsala got on the scoreboard in the first inning after a base hit to right field but a great relay from Riley Kappes to Logan Church gunned another would-be scorer out at the plate with a nice tag by Connor Ernst. In the 4th inning, Upsala broke the game open scoring 6 runs in the top half of the inning, capitalizing on a few costly Breckenridge errors.

"We are one play away in that inning from getting out of there and keeping it a 1-0 game with the middle of our order due up at the plate," said Coach Jack Hiedeman of the Cowboys.  "In the bottom half of the inning the Cowboys threatened, loading the bases but were unable to get in the scoring column."

Breckenridge allowed 3 more runs in the top half of the 5th inning to give Upsala a comfortable 10-0 lead after a pair of walks and a hit by pitch. The Cowboys showed signs of life in the bottom half of the 5th inning scoring 4 runs to extend the game after hits by Jacob Nicholson, Gavin Hoffert, and Gabe Armitage. Riley Kappes continued to find ways on base as well with a walk and later scoring. Breckenridge plated their final run in the 7th after an Armitage double and later scoring on a single by Trey Vogelbacher.

"It was good to get the bats going there at the end of the game, but unfortunately it was too little too late," added Hiedeman. "We are right in these games, just need to find a way to limit the damage and avoid the big inning."

Breckenridge is back at it again on Thursday traveling to Barnesville for a conference double header.
