Annika Jyrkas earned medalist honors at Eagle Creek Golf Course in Willmar as the Fergus Falls girls’ golf team opened the 2024 high school season with a sixth place finish on Tuesday.  Jyrkas posted a solid 77 to take the top individual honors.  Dawson-Boyd won the team title with a score of 372 and Sartell was second at 379.  They were followed by BOLD 386, Willmar 391, Lac qui Parle Valley 407, Fergus Falls 408 and New London-Spicer 423.

“Today was the first day we have been on a course this year,” commented Head Coach Ben Jurgens of the Otters.  “Today was about experience and getting some of the cobwebs out of our game.”

Olivia Jurgens and Shay Katzenmeyer finished in a tie for 30th place with rounds of 107.  Ellie Bergren was 49th with a 117, Hanna Bye contributed a 121 and Ava Thompson turned in a 122.

“Each of the girls hit good shots at times today,” added Coach Jurgens.  “Unfortunately, the lack of time outside also helped produce some wild shots, too.  As the season continues we will see an increase in good shots and our misses will improve to good misses.”
