Annika Jyrkas and Annie Mayer will captain the Fergus Falls girls’ golf team this spring after having qualified for state last year. Jyrkas placed fifth in the AA State tournament. Olivia Jurgens, Ellie Bergren, Hanna Bye and Shay Katzenmeyer all return from last season. Ava Thompson, Katie Bergren, Maddie Price, Hannah Johnson, Maggie Greenagel and Averie Tonneson round out the varsity roster.
“Our goal is pretty consistent year after year,” said Head Coach Ben Jurgens. “We want to be playing our best golf at the end of May and beginning of June. We are not overly concerned with how we place throughout the season, we just need to learn our way to scoring better so we are ready in June.”
Jurgens points to Detroit Lakes as the top team in Section 8AA. “They took third in the state in Class AAA last season and didn’t graduate anyone, so they are definitely the best team in not only the section but in the state! In our Conference (Central Lakes) we play with all Class AAA schools. Alexandria and Brainerd are the top teams in the CLC.”
