Alexandria (199), Brainerd (75.5) and Willmar (69) finished 1-2-3 at the Central Lakes Conference Girls Indoor Track and Field Meet on Saturday.  Rocori (67) was fourth and Fergus Falls (63.5) came in fifth.  Sartell (55.5), Sauk Rapids-Rice (28.5), St. Cloud Tech (16) and St. Cloud Apollo (10) rounded out the team scoring.

“The Otters brought it back indoors for the CLC Indoor Championship to conclude a full week of Track and Field meets,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Niki Welde.  “I could not be more pleased with the performances that we saw today.  We knew the kids would be a bit fatigued, but the amount of season bests shows just how strong this team is.  We host the Otter invite on Tuesday and the weather looks to be cooperating.  Come out to watch this amazing team!”

Estee Versteeg and Cassie Wellman placed first and second, respectively, in the 3200.  They each ran a season best time.  “Those are amazing results after a long grind of distance racing this week,” said Coach Welde.  “But wait, that's not all, they each dropped time in the mile placing 3rd and 5th, respectively.  And if that wasn't enough, they each ran a solid split in the 4x4 at the end of the meet.”

Welde continued, “Violet McConn is another distance runner who stepped up, scoring many points for her team today.  She ran a leg on our 6th place 4x4 relay with Alexis Wellman, Savannah Lee and Estee Versteeg.  Violet's third place in the 400 and a season first run in the 800 showed her true strength.”

Alexis Wellman helped lead the 4x4 and also a 3rd place in the 4x8 with Naomi Dummer, Savannah Lee, and Carsyn Lill. “This 4x8 team came together to earn that 3rd place finish even with a lap count mistake at the exchange,” reported Welde.  “The officials mistakenly held them back at an exchange by miscounting laps. Senior Naomi Dummer finally received the baton after that and ran an outstanding split.  Violet's 7th place spot in the 800 was also a season best, and Savannah Lee ran a season best in the mile, becoming the 3rd Otter to score points in the 1600 today”.

Ruby Ellison placed 5th in a tough field of high jumpers. She ran on the 6th place 4x2 team with Esther Covington, Ashlyn Wohlers, and Rylee Kubela

Senior Ella Starzl scored in the Long jump and High Jump, Mayah Fear brought in a 3rd place finish in the triple jump, along with Brynn Blondeau jumping a season best for 7th place.
