A shorthanded Lady Spartan team played in a very windy Worthington Saturday and lost both games to the Blue Jays from Minnesota West Community and Technical College. Game one score was 12-10 and game two ended 19-11.

The Lady Spartans were without their top two pitchers for the day, so in game one they turned to Avery Knutson to pitch. She did a very good job of keeping the Lady Spartans in the game, going the distance, and really did a nice job of preventing big innings. Defensively, the Lady Spartans were much improved but missed a couple key opportunities to help Knutson out. The Lady Spartans have been able to score runs and Saturday was no different. They did have a 10-9 lead after four innings but couldn’t push the runs across late in the game. The highlight of the game was a Maisy Hoefer two run homerun to straight away center. Kaisa Jones added three runs batted in and Keely Foley had three hits and scored three runs.

In game two the Lady Spartans had a 6-5 lead after three innings before the pitching ran out and they lost the game 19-11. Sydney Schaefer had three hits, scored four runs and ran the bases very aggressively. Kaleigh Peterson had two hits and three runs batted in and Jerica Brenna picked up three hits and an RBI.

The Lady Spartans will open their home season against Ridgewater College. Game time is 3:00pm.
