The M State Lady Spartan softball team traveled to Willmar Friday to play the Ridgewater College Warriors and competed well, but dropped both ends of the doubleheader by scores of 16-8 and 17-9. Both games were one run games in the late innings until Ridgewater put the games away with big sixth innings.

In game one, Maisy Hoefer had three hits and a sac fly for four runs batted in. Kendra Emery also had a pair of hits and three runs batted in and scored twice. Leadoff hitter Sydney Schaefer scored three runs and Kaisa Jones scored a pair of runs also.

Pitcher Kaylee Flom threw well but was the victim of some expected early season errors.

In game two, the Lady Spartans fell behind 4-0 in the first inning but scored three runs in the top of the second to make the game 4-3. Schaefer had the big hit of the inning, a single that plated two.

The Lady Spartans were down 9-3 after three innings but used a six-run top of the fourth to tie the game 9-9. Emery had an RBI single, and Kaleigh Peterson had a clutch two run single. Kaisa Jones followed that with an RBI double and the score was tied 9-9.

Ridgewater scored one run in the bottom of the fourth, added two in the fifth and sealed the deal with a five run sixth inning.

The Lady Spartans will play Minnesota West Community and Technical in Worthington Saturday.
