The Hawley baseball team returns seven letter winners from their 9-12 team of a year ago as Beau Lofgren begins his 22nd season as head coach.  Keith Hanson, Nick Birchem (JV) and Jaxon Paulson (Junior High) will serve as assistant coaches.  “Our team features great leadership and a crew of boys that loves the game of baseball,” said Coach Lofgren.  “They’ve put in a lot of time during the off season to improve.  I am really excited for the season!”

Returners include seniors Jayden Ambuehl (P, SS), Cael Kosmatka (P, C, OF), and Aiden Eilertson (P, 2B), juniors Tommy Slette (P, C) and Carter Ambuehl (3B, OF), sophomore Owen Becker (SS, 2B, P) and freshman Hayden Rux (1B, P).  Kosmatka, Eilertson, Ambuehl and Slette will serve as team captains.

Junior Payton Highness (OF, 2B) and freshmen Eli Strawsell (P, 2B), Brody Hadley (P, IF), Dillon Hoekstra (P, IF), Ethan Schenck (OF, 2B), Linkoln Midthun (OF, IF, C) and Wyatt Jegtvig (IF/P) will also be in the varsity mix.

“Most of our pitching returns and we have some younger kids who are ready to work for a chance to get into the lineup,” said Coach Lofgren.  “The Heart O’ Lakes and Section 8AA is always loaded with solid teams.  This year will be no different.  We hope to make a run, hit our peak in late May into June, and have fun along the way.  Being able to get outside this early in the season certainly helps.  We’ve been trending in the right direction over the course of the last three seasons, and I look for that to continue in 2024.”

Lofgren says Perham and DGF are the favorites in the HOL and the top teams in Section 8AA are Perham DGF, Roseau and East Grand Forks.
