Andy Mekalson is in his eleventh season as head coach of the Frazee baseball team.  His Hornets are coming off a 10-11 season that saw them go 6-6 in the tough Heart O’ Lakes Conference.  They return five starters from that squad.  “We have a great group of coachable kids,” said Mekalson.  “A lot of talent and a bit of experience, but very young.”  Mekalson will be assisted by Brandon Olson and Jason Bauer.

Returning starters are seniors Drew Mekalson (P, 1B), Derek Zitzow (P, 3B), Logan Brekke (P, OF) and Cael Pausch (P, C), and junior Asher Blaine (P, SS).  Key varsity newcomers are juniors Andrew Aho (OF, IF) and Chandler Ulrich (OF), and sophomores Adam Vigen (P, SS) and Karson Krause (P, C).  Zitzow and Mekalson will serve as team captains.

Coach Mekalson says Perham and DGF are the favorites in the HOL, while New York Mills appears to be the team to beat in Section 5A.
