The Breckenridge Cowboys picked up a great home win to kick off their season defeating West Central Area 12-0 after 5 innings. The Cowboys were led defensively by Trey Vogelbacher who pitched all 5 innings, striking out 12 WCA batters and allowing only 3 hits and zero base on balls.  "Trey was fantastic on the mound today," said Head Coach Jack Hiedeman of the Cowboys. "Couldn't ask for a better effort than that. He was pounding the strike zone all game, attacking hitters and doing a great job of hitting his spots."

Vogelbacher's battery mate was Freshman Connor Ernst who made his varsity debut.

At the plate, Cooper Roberts led the Cowboys with a bases clearing 3 RBI triple to kick off the scoring for Breckenridge who went on to score 7 runs in the first frame. From there it was smooth sailing behind Vogelbachers dominance. Breckenridge scored one run in the second inning and 4 runs in the 4th inning to close the door on WCA. Gavin Hoffert, Connor Ernst, Logan Church, Paul Armitage, and Riley Kappes all also picked up hits for the Cowboys.

"It was a perfect day for a spring baseball game and it was a great team win," added Coach Hiedeman. "Opening day is always exciting and when you play the way we did today its all the better."

The Cowboys next game is next Thursday, April 11th in a double header against conference rival Pelican Rapids.
