The Fergus Falls boys’ track and field team will be looking to improve on their 5th place finish in the Central Lakes Conference championship meet, their 7th place finish at the Section 8AA meet and their 9th place at the 8AA True Team Section meet as they enter 2024.  “We had several key moments form last year that include a 3rd place finish for our 4x800 meter relay at sections,” reported Head Coach Derek Meyer of the Otters.  “Jaden Miller, Shane Zierden and Alex Jensen qualified for the state meet and Andrew Muchow emerged as a top pole vaulter for our team and in the section.”

Returning letter winners are seniors Shane Zierden (sprints, jumps), Logan Rott (sprints, jumps), Layten Drouillard (throws) and David Ronnevik (distance), juniors Jaden Miller (distance), Andrew Muchow (sprints, jumps, pole vault), Tommy Erickson (distance), Logan Bredenberg (distance) and Jack Welde (jumps), and sophomores Quinn Wynn-Sheldon (sprints/throws), Matthew Tuel (distance), Micah Mouser (distance) and Jeremiah Daniels (Sprints).

“We are returning a lot of talent that was competitive last season and we will look to take a shot at the True Team title and place in their respective events for sections,” added Coach Meyer.  “We also have some new upperclassmen additions that will fill in nicely all around.”

Young talent coming in will be freshmen Ethan Strande (distance) and Jaden Kwapinski (sprints, distance, throws, jumps).  New to the team is junior Jaden Heikes (sprints, jumps).

Alexandria and Brainerd are Meyer’s top competitors for the Otters in Section 8AA and the Central Lakes Conference.

Assisting Meyer are Denny Hystead, Shawn Papon, Ike Carlson, Nathan Dragseth. Angie Leitch, Kyle Owings, and Jon Pontius.

2023 graduate Alex Jensen is now throwing at Colorado State.
