During the 2023 track and field season the Barnesville girls’ were first or second as a team in most of their regular season meets.  They were the Section 6A True Team and the Sub-Section 21 champions, and they placed 6th at the MSHSL State Track and Field meet.  Two girls, Lindsey Rotz (800, 1600) and Rumely Biewer (Shot Put) advanced to the state meet.  “It was a very successful year, having improvements occur throughout the season with all of the girls accelerating to their full potential,” commented Head Coach Mike Schaub, now in his 18th season.  “They all exhibited good work ethic with solid performances, while still having a lot of fun!”

The 2024 Trojans will be led by seniors Kenadee Gray (pole vault, relays), Hadley Pearson (distance, jumps, relays), Olivia Power (hurdles, jumps, relays), Rotz (distance, jumps, relays) and Mallory Rasmussen (discus, shot put).  Juniors Jayden Camperud (discus, shot put), Ella Cossette (sprints, relays, throws), Ava Follingstad (jumps, sprints, relays), Sophie Frederick (distance, relays), Jasmine Sistad (shot put, discus), Nila Church (hurdles, distance) and Morgan Baer (shot put, discus) are also expected to turn in strong varsity performances.

“Returning letter winners are among the athletes to watch this year, in addition to a talented group of 7th and 8th graders,” noted Coach Schaub.  “Lindsey Rotz should have another good year as she advanced to the state meet in both the 800 and 1600 meter runs.  She broke the school record in the 800, 1600 and 3200 meter runs.  Ava Follingstad should also have another good year in the sprints, relays and jumps.  She broke the school record in the triple jump.”

Sophomores Laila Berg (relays, jumps), Anika Cossette (sprints, relays, jumps), Shayna Erickson (shot put, discus), Ashley Maneval (pole vault, jumps, hurdles) and Ava Ness (sprints, relays), and freshmen Jayla Amundson (sprints, relays), Addyson Barnes (sprints, relays), Rylee Bauer (distance, relays), Isabella Follingstad (high jump, hurdles), Addyson Rasmussen (high jump), Morgan Schlauderaff (sprints, relays) and Julia Foster (sprints, relays, jumps) will also contribute at the varsity level.

“Anika Cossette, Addy Barnes, Morgan Schlauderaff, Jayla Amundson, are also girls to watch this year in the sprints and relays,” reported Coach Schaub.  “Ashley Maneval should have another good season in the pole vault.  I look for our team to be strong in all areas, throwing, jumping, distance, and sprinting.  We have a lot of depth and a team with a good work ethic, great dedication and a lot of talent.  We also have a lot of ambitious 7th and 8th graders looking to push the upperclassmen for a spot to compete at the varsity level.”

Eighth-graders Coleman Biewer, Korina Brekhus, Taylor Christopherson, Brynna Fradet, Bridgit Hendrickson, Madison Nord, Autumn Louwagie, Isabell Orr, Sophia Ramsey and Molly Rotz, along with seventh-graders Chloe Anderson, Braelyn Bomstad, Shelby Erickson, Taylor Grunewald, Molly Hooker, Myrah Karels, Isabella LeNoue, Taryn Packer, MaKayla Power, Elizabeth Ruff and Enora Westbrock are all looking to crack the varsity lineup.

Schaub looks at Perham as the favorite to win the Heart O’ Lakes Conference, the Trojans to finish first in the True Team Section 6A meet, MSHSL Sub-Section 21 and MSHSL Section 6A.

Assistant coaches will be Jack Schaub (Assistant Girls Coach, long jump, triple jump), Kailee Strand (Head Boys Coach, jumps), Nick Paur (Assistant Boys Coach, shot put, discus), Shawn Paschke (Volunteer Coach, pole vault), Maizey Berg (Volunteer Coach, Throws), Carolin Rotz (Volunteer Coach, distance, high jump) and Joe Westbrock (Volunteer Coach, hurdles, sprints).
