The high school boys’ basketball season came to close on Wednesday night at the Hive in Perham for the Henning Hornets as they lost a 69-55 decision to the Ada-Borup/West Cougars.  Henning led 33-23, but the Cougars put together a strong second half, scoring the first 12 points to take a two-point lead and out-scoring the Hornets 46-22.  Ada-Borup/West shot 56% (26-46) and held a 28-19 edge on the boards.  Henning shot just 36% (17-46) on the night.

Kale Misegades (25 points, 4 rebounds) and Teigan Bjerke (14 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists) were the leaders for Henning.  Logan Kostelecky added 9 points, 3 rebounds and a pair of assists, while Lane Dilly had 3 steals, 3 assists, 3 rebounds and 2 points.

“It is always difficult to see a season come to an end,” acknowledged Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “We played a really solid first half. We had a number of guys make shots and we were solid defensively. The second half was a completely different story. We couldn’t score and couldn’t get consistent defensive stops. Ada-Borup/West was the better team tonight. They outplayed us and deserved to win.”

Leading the way for the Cougars were Cameron Spaeth (15 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists), Cadyn Dahl (14 points), Mason Larson (14 points, 6 rebounds) and Austin McCraven (12 points, 4 assists, 5 rebounds, 3 steals).

“I am proud of our team and the season we had,” added Coach Misegades. “We won another conference championship and we were the runner-up in the sub-section. We finished our season 26-3 overall. I want to thank our lone senior, Lane Dilly. He’s a tough, hard-nosed kid who always got the most out of his ability.”

Ada-Borup/West, ranked third in the state in the latest Class A poll, will now face the number two ranked team in the state, West Central Area, for the Section 6A championship at 7:00pm Friday at the Roosevelt Gym in the Otter Fieldhouse in Fergus Falls.
