Thul's Double-Double Leads Lady Cards to Quarterfinal Win in 3A State Tournament

The Alexandria girls’ basketball team won from start to finish in the quarterfinal round of the Class 3A State Tournament on Wednesday at Maturi Pavilion on the campus of the University of Minnesota.  The Cardinals led 27-24 at halftime and out-scored Rock Ridge 40-26 over the final 18 minutes to post a 67-50 victory.  Alexandria scored 21 points of 19 turnovers and shot 45.6% (26-57) from the field while holding their opponent to just 34.5% (19-55) shooting.

 

 

Hadley Thul’s double-double (21 points, 14 rebounds) led the way for the lady Cards.  She also had 4 assists, 4 steals and a blocked shot.  MaCee Linow also scored 21 points, while dishing out 5 assists, and Lauren Beyer had 16 points.  Allie Haabala distributed a team high 8 assists and had 3 steals.

Anna Westby (20 points, 15 rebounds, 4 steals) led Rock Ridge.  Alexis Lamppa (17 points, 3 rebounds, 2 assists) and Maija Lamppa (10 points, 7 rebounds, 4 assists, 2 steals) joined Westby in double digits.

The third-seeded Cardinals will now face second-seeded DeLaSalle in a semifinal round contest on Thursday at 2:00pm at Williams Arena.
