Pelican Rapids led 42-32 at the half on Wednesday night and held on throughout the second half for a 78-65 victory over East Grand Forks in the Section 8AA Section semifinal game at Concordia College in Moorhead. Timmy Guler (20), Charlie Larson (17), Miguel Torres (15) and Grady Larson (13) were all in double figures for the Vikings.
“We were able to start out fast and build a twenty point lead in the first half, but we got in some foul trouble and gave them too many second chance points and they were able to tighten it up a bit at halftime,” stated Pelican Rapids Head Coach John Gullingsrud. “We again started out strong in the second half to push the lead back up to eighteen midway through the half. They cut the lead to eight at one point, but we did a good job of hitting free throws down the stretch to seal the win.”
Leaders for East Grand Forks were Carson McDonald (21), Drew Carpenter (19) and Austin Rusling (11).
The Vikings will now face Park Rapids Area at 7:00pm Friday at Concordia College for the 8AA championship. The Panthers won their semifinal contest against Wadena-Deer Creek, 63-47.
