Convincingly, the Perham Yellowjackets took care of business in wrapping up their back-to-back Section Championship with a 75-57 over the #7 State-ranked Pelican Rapids Vikings.

Willow Thiel led the Jackets with 35 points and 16 rebounds. She was 3-4 from deep, including 2 big ones that stopped Pelican mini-runs. In our 3 playoff games (first round bye) she has 109 points (on 42-62 shooting) and 47 rebounds, absolutely unbelievable!

With the score going back and forth and the Jackets leading 11-10, Perham went on a 12-0 run to take a 23-10 lead. Kaia Anderson led the Jackets by knocking down 3 big threes and Kennedy Pilgrim added a couple of threes, too. The Jackets were up 29-13 and leading scorers Willow Thiel and Cora Grismer had only combined for 4 points. Willow finished off the first half by scoring the next 13 points to give Perham a 42-26 lead at the half. The defensive effort by the Jackets was absolutely outstanding, as was the outside shooting with Perham hitting 9 first half threes.

With anticipation of another trip to state in their sights, the Jackets had to harness their energy and stay focused at the task on hand. The Vikings didn't go away quietly, though, and the Perham girls did a great job of taking enough time off the clock but were still efficient in their scoring to keep Pelican Rapids at bay. When it was all said and done, the Jacket seniors were taken off the court to a standing ovation, the clock struck zero with a 75-57 win, and the raucous Jacket faithful stormed the court.

Kaia Anderson had an outstanding game, hitting 4 threes and coming down with two huge offensive rebound put-backs in the second half. Defensively, Cora Grismer was great, making everything difficult for Morgan Korf. Ryleigh Mickelson and Kennedy Pilgrim also provided great defense throughout the game and they each had 5 assists.

Morgan Korf led the Vikings with 25 points. Ellie Welch added 9 points, and Anna Roisum and Ari Hovland contributed 8 points each.  The Vikings made 9 3-point field goals.  Pelican Rapids finishes the season with a 25-4 record.

Perham moves to 26-3 and advances to the State Tournament for the second straight year. The Jackets will play #1 seed Providence Academy at 6:00 pm at Williams Arena Wednesday, March 13th.
