The Hancock girls’ basketball team needed overtime to pull out a thrilling 72-70 victory over the Breckenridge Cowgirls on Thursday night in the South Sub-Section 6A championship game at Minnewaska Area High School in Glenwood.  The win puts the Owls into the Section title game against the Underwood Rockets for a third consecutive year.  That game is scheduled for Friday night at the Roosevelt Gym in the Otter Fieldhouse in Fergus Falls, with a 7:00pm tip-off.

“We got off to a slow start and offensively it was a grind all night long,” commented Hancock Head Coach Chad Nuest. “Breckenridge played great defense and took away a lot of the things that we do well. We had to dig deep and battle all night long to find shots. We were able to get to the free throw line all night long. We made a nice run to end the first half and cut the lead down to 2 points and that was a big key. Brooke Versteeg who has been our glue girl all year got in foul trouble and that was a huge factor. Kaitlyn Staples put us on her back and hit so many big shots. The girls gutted it out and when things didn’t go as plan found a way to win. In March that’s all that matters at the end of the day.”
