Border West has advanced in the Section 6A boys’ basketball tournament, handing the Hancock Owls a 57-47 loss on Thursday night. The defending section champion Buccaneers held Hancock to 34% (20-58) shooting and just 1-of-20 shooting from beyond the 3-point line. Border West led 30-22 at the half.
Nolan Wilson led the Bucs with 20 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists and a pair of steals. He was joined in double figures by Holden Rinke with 13 points. Rinke led the team with 9 rebounds and had a team high 6 assists. Jack Siegel finished with 10 points and 9 boards.
Hudson VerSteeg had a huge night for the Owls, scoring 25 points and securing 17 rebounds. Chase Evink came up with 14 boards and had 5 assists, to go along with 6 points. Jordan Chunn added 9 points and Brayden Kisgen finished with a team leading 8 assists.
Border West will now travel to Glenwood to face the top-seed in the South, West Central Area, in a 1:00pm contest at Minnewaska Area High School.
