Jack Mekalson poured in 26 points to lead Battle Lake to a 60-47 victory over New York Mills in a Section 6A pigtail playoff game on Monday night.  The Battlers have now won 11 of their last 13 games and will travel to Ada to face number two seed, Ada-Borup/West in a 7:00pm contest on Thursday night.

Braxtyn Cameron and Maddox Mekalson also finished in double figures for the Battlers, scoring 16 and 10 points, respectively.  Jack Mekalson pulled down 6 rebounds, dished out 3 assists and recorded a pair of blocks.  Maddox Mekalson added 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 2 blocked shots, while Cameron finished with 5 rebounds, 2 assists and two blocks.  Aidan Heggem contributed 4 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocked shots.

"Tonight's win was an ugly one but whenever you can get a playoff win in March it's a good thing," stated Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  "We struggled at times to get a flow on offense and it helped New York Mills stay in the game.  We also had a couple guys get into foul trouble in the first half and it took us out of our rotations and we had to play some other guys who normally don't see too many minutes.  One bright spot was our defense tonight. Mason Dalluge (9 rebounds, 3 blocks, 2 assists) solidified himself as a top, if not the top, defender in this section as he held Sam Kopveiler scoreless after he had 22 points on us a couple of weeks ago. Mason did a great job at being there every time he caught the ball and the rest of the team did a great job of helping on his drives.  We also did a great job of protecting the paint as we had 5 guys with 2+ blocks tonight.  We have to have better flow to our offense and be better screeners to give ourselves a chance against a very good Ada-Borup/West team on Thursday."

New York Mills was led by Jacob Thorsrud and Finn Roder with 14 points each.  The Eagles struggled to make free throws in the game, going 6-for-16 on the line.

New York Mills finishes the season with a record of 1-26.

Battle Lake improved to 15-12 with the win.
