Cardinals Finish 10th, Kavanagh Takes Class A State Diving Title

Alexandria sophomore Kyler Kavanagh became a State Champion in diving on Saturday at the Class A State Meet at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the U of M campus, posting a winning total of 465.65 points.  He improved on his second place finish as a freshman in 2023.  Senior Eric Peterson competed in four events, earning All-State recognition in the 100 freestyle, placing eighth with a time of 48.56 seconds.  He also tied for 15th in the 50 freestyle and was the anchor on the 200 free relay and 400 free relay teams.

 

Cooper Running, a junior, was All-State in both the 200 free and the 500 free with a sixth place finish in the 200 (1:46.65) and a sixth in the 500 (4:55.55).  He was also on both relay teams.

The 200 free relay team was ninth, with Adi Newman and Andy Wacek joining Running and Peterson.  The 400 free relay came in 13th with Andrew Crowser joining Newman, Running and Peterson.

Wacek swam in the 200 IM and came in 15th in the event.

Alexandria’s team score of 92.5 points placed them 10th overall in the team competition.
