The Henning Hornets completed a 24-2 regular season with their 17th consecutive win on Friday night, beating Battle Lake by the score of 74-42.  The Hornets held a 40-20 halftime advantage.

“Packed house tonight as we celebrated 110 years of Henning Basketball as well as the five year anniversary of our 2019 State Championship,” said Henning Head Coach Randy Misegades. “It was great to see so many alumni in the gym!”

Henning was led by 25 points, 4 rebounds, 4 steals, 3 blocks, and 3 rebounds from Kale MisegadesTeigan Bjerke had 17 points and a season high 7 assists, and Lane Dilly finished 12 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists.  Noah Umland and Logan Kostelecky chipped in with 8 points each, and Kostelecky added 7 rebounds.

“We had a lot of guys hit shots early in the game tonight which helped us get going,” stated Coach Misegades. “We did a nice job moving the ball offensively which led to a lot of open looks. Our defensive effort was much improved tonight as well.”

Henning shot 54% (29-53) from the field and made 11-of-25 (44%) 3-point shots.  The Hornets received the number one seed in the North half of Section 6A and will open post season play on Thursday, March 7.

“Section 6A is the deepest in the state,” acknowledged Coach Misegades. “We’ll need a great effort each game to have a chance to win.”

Jack Mekalson led Battle Lake with 15 points in the game.  Mason Dalluge was also in double figures with 10 points, and Braxtyn Cameron finished with 9.

"Credit to Henning tonight," commented Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  "They shot the ball well to start the game making 7 of 13's in the 1st half and we struggled to make shots.  In the second half it was a lot of the same but we couldn't stop Henning from making 2-point baskets as they made 10 of 11.  Our energy and focus on defense was not there for the whole game and you can't do that against good teams like Henning who moves the ball really well offensively.  We need to refocus and get ourselves ready to make a playoff run next week now."

Battle Lake (14-12) has a play-in game on Monday at 7:00pm at home against New York Mills.
