Matthew Tuel has advanced to the Class A State finals in the 200 freestyle and the 500 freestyle, while Jaden Kwapinski qualified for finals in the 200 IM and Reece Hansen is going to compete in the 100 backstroke finals.  “Overall, we had a really good day in the pool,” stated Fergus Falls Head Coach Randy Hansen.  “Our medley relay placed 18th and added some time.  It would have been hard for us to make the top 16 for finals, but we were hoping to drop some time.  I'm sure nerves had a little to do with it.”

Tuel dropped a little time and is sitting in 14th place in the 200 free.  He is also in 13th in the 500 free with a 6 second drop.  “He just about broke the 5-minute barrier, which would be amazing,” stated Coach Hansen.  "I know he has more left in the tank for both races.  Jaden did not drop any time in the 200 IM, but he did make finals in 16th place. Making finals as a 9th grader is a great accomplishment.  Reece added a little time in the 100 fly, but swan a great race, and he added a little time in the 100 back, but is seeded 10th for tomorrow.  Both were close to season best times and it will be great for him to concentrate on one event tomorrow.”

Logan Rott did not make finals in the 100 breaststroke, but did swim a lifetime best time.  “What a great way to end your high school career,” said Hansen.  “Our 400 free relay just missed out on finals, placing 17th, but swam our best time of the season.  “We told Landon Votava that he had to set the tone for the relay and he swam his best split ever to get us going.  The great thing for that relay is that they all are coming back next year and are motivated to make finals.  Saturday will be an exciting day with more great times!”
