Barnesville traveled to East Grand Forks Friday night for their final regular season game before playoffs next week. The Trojans came out with a big win against a tough section opponent, beating the Green Wave by the score of 78-70.

“The first half was up and down, not the style we wanted to play,” stated Head Coach Matt Askegaard of Barnesville. “We can play that style, but we needed to be more intentional with turning the game into a half court type of game. As a team we got into some foul trouble and put them to the line 12 times in the first half and went into halftime down 1, 37-36.  In the second half we slowed things down and made them run offense. We also kept them off of the free throw line. We were able to build a 12-point lead a couple of times, but they have some kids that can really shoot it. However, we were able to hold them off and spread them out to get some easy baskets down towards the end to seal the win. Once again, we were very balanced in scoring as we had 4 guys in double figures. But, we were able to get some big stops defensively.”

Gannon Bolgrean registered a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds) and added 7 assists.  Zac Bredman also dished out 7 assists and scored 17 points.  Ethan Larson (17 points, 9 rebounds) and Brady Nosal (10 points, 3 steals) also reached double figures.

Barnesville made 49% (30-61) of their shots from the field and held a 38-25 advantage on the boards.

Barnesville is now 19-7 overall and 10-2 in the HOL.  “It will be interesting to see where the QRF will place us for next week,” added Coach Askegaard.
