Maroon and Gold will be prevalent colors when the Class A Boys Swimming and Diving State Championship Meet is held at the Jean K. Freeman Aquatic Center at the U of M Thursday through Saturday.  “I could not be prouder of the boys,” said Fergus Falls Head Coach Randy Hansen.  “Leaving the prelims yesterday I know many of them were not happy with how they swam so they attacked today with something to prove and they absolutely crushed it.  Qualifying two relays and 6 individual swims for state is a great way to end the season.  That is the most we have had since 2019.”

Matthew Tuel and Reece Hansen as double individual qualifiers is not something we have had in quite a while,” noted Coach Hansen.  “Reece made the state cut time by over 1 second in the 100 back, which is really difficult to do.  Matthew was less than 1 second off the cut time in the 500.  They both were focused and really went for it.  I am so happy for Logan Rott qualifying in the 100 Breast as a senior.  He has worked so hard and has earned that trip.  And for Jaden Kwapinski to repeat in the 200 IM is quite the feat.  Not too many 9th graders can say that they have gone to state twice.  The 400 free relay dropped over 10 seconds from yesterday and almost made the state cut time.  They were so focused all year on going to state and it was fun to see it all come together and the Medley relay gelled at just the right time.  The guys in the consolation heat also swam their hearts out.  So many of them dropped time again today and they are a big reason why we were able to sneak ahead of DL for 3rd place as a team.”

Melrose/Sauk Centre won the team title with 523 points and Alexandria was runner-up with 476.5.  Fergus Falls was third with 313.5, just ahead of Detroit Lakes with 308.5.
