Otter Boys Fall to Northern Lakes 7-3 in 6A Semifinal Contest

The Northern Lakes Lightning scored 3 second period goals to open up a 5-1 lead after two periods of play Saturday in the Section 6A semifinals at the MAC in St. Cloud.  The Lightning finished with two more goals in the final period, taking a 7-3 win over Fergus Falls.  The Otters were outshot 41-34 in the contest.

 

Jacob Peterson got Northern Lakes on the board 1:46 into the first period with assists from Wyatt Balmer and Leyton Cable.  At 9:10, Aiden Schake scored for Fergus Falls, tying the game at 1-1.  His goal was assisted by Gavin Goepferd and Griffin Babolian.  The Lightning took a 2-1 lead on a goal at 13:59 from Easton Anderson, assisted by Drew Paulbeck and Jerome Martin.

A short-handed goal by Wyatt Balmer was setup by Peterson at 5:40 of the second period and Anderson’s short-handed goal, assisted by Paulbeck, made it 4-1 in favor of Northern Lakes.  They increased the lead to 5-1 when Grant Vershey tallied an even strength goal from Isaac Peterson and Drew Paulbeck.

Fergus Falls cut into the lead with a power play goal by Samuel Dirkman, assisted by Michael Schmidt and Gavin Goepferd at 5:21 of the third period.  Northern Lakes responded at 5:34 with a goal from Jayden Marthaler, assisted by Finnegan Fogarty.  Another Fergus Falls power play goal, this time by Schmidt and assisted by Jack Welde, made it a 6-3 game at 10:50 of the period.  Jacob Peterson notched the final goal into an empty net at 16:02.  The goal was assisted by Logan Verville and Wyatt Balmer.”

Fergus Falls ends their season with an overall record of 9 wins and 18 defeats.
