Two state-ranked teams clashed on Friday night at Marshall High School in Duluth with the Perham girls’ basketball team coming out on top 75-69 against Duluth Marshall.  The Hilltoppers made 11 three-pointers on 23 attempts in the first half to build a 47-34 lead.  Bad shots, turnovers, a pair of shot clock violations, and many balls deflected out of bounds, resulted in Duluth Marshall scoring only 22 second half points.

“It was an energy-filled environment, perfect for the last game of the regular season to get both teams ready for playoffs,” stated Perham Head Coach TJ Super

Regan Jueneman (27 points) and Chloe Johnson (25 points, 10 rebounds, 5 assists) were the only two girls to score in the second half for the Hilltoppers as they were stymied by the Yellowjackets defensive intensity.  Ada Shaft had all 14 of her points in the first half.

“While the Jacket defense was doing their thing, the offense was rolling, led by Willow Thiel,” noted Coach Super.  “Thiel had 22 second half points, including many clutch free throws down the stretch.  She ended the game with 30 points and 14 rebounds.  Again, she was a model of efficiency, only taking 18 shots.”

Kennedy Pilgrim added 21 points and 5 assists, Cora Grismer chipped in with 8 points and Ryleigh Mickelson distributed 6 assists.

Perham pushed their record to 23-3 and will be the number one seed going into the Section 8AA Torunament.
