The Hawley Nuggets traveled to Barnesville for a Heart O’ Lakes Conference showdown with the Trojans.  Barnesville came out on top, 80-63, placing five players in double figures.  Brady Nosal led the way with 19 points, Gannon Bolgrean scored 16 and Zach Bredman contributed 13.  Ethan Larson and Nick Robideau added 12 and 11 points, respectively.

“It was Senior and Parent's Night as we took some time to recognize the 5 seniors and their parents for the hard work and dedication to the program,” noted Barnesville Head Coach Matt Askegaard.  “I was a little anxious going into the game after Tuesday's game as I wasn't sure how we would come out. However, from the opening tip I knew it was the team we had seen grow together throughout the year.  Offensively, we attacked the paint and moved the ball from side to side. Defensively, we kept Stoa from getting to the paint and contested outside shots. We did get into a bit of foul trouble, but we battled through it and took a 37-30 lead into the break.  In the second half we were able to build our lead to as much as 26. It ended up being a great win for us and the 5 seniors were able to end the game together.”

Brevin Stoa led all scorers in the game with 21 points.  Noah Nelson added a dozen, William Baker had 11 and Landon Bakke chipped in with 9.

“It was a rough night in a hostile atmosphere tonight for our squad,” said Hawley Head Coach Nate Stoa. “We didn’t get off to a great start and they came out more than ready to go.  Turnovers hurt us early.  We corrected those and closed the gap but ran out of juice in the second half.  The three game week after a week of illness was hard on our guys but I think there are lessons to be learned and those will help us in March.”

Barnesville (17-7, 10-2 HOL) travels to Wheaton for a game against Border West on Monday.  The Trojans earned a share of the Heart O’ Lakes Conference title for the first time since 2002.

Hawley (12-11, 6-6 HOL) is off until Friday, March 1 when they will host Norman County East/Ulen-Hitterdal in their regular season finale.
