Basketball fans from around the region are encouraged to attend the dedication of the Rex Haugen Court in the Al Siegle Activity Center at the Pelican Rapids Public School on Saturday, February 24 when the Vikings host Ada-Borup/West. The court dedication will take place between the JV and Varsity games that afternoon, at approximately 3:15. The JV game begins at 2:00pm. There will be a reception in the Legends Gym following the varsity game.
In his 31 seasons as head coach, Haugen led the Vikings to 14 conference championships, 8 District/Sub-Section Championships, 3 Region/Section Championships and 3 State Tournament appearances. His 1977 team was state runner-up, his 1984 team won the Class A State title and his 1993 team also participated in the State Tournament.
Haugen won 6 Conference Coach of the Year awards, 3 Region Coach the Year awards and was inducted into the Minnesota Basketball Coaches Hall of Fame in 1993. He was also inducted into the Mayville State University Athletic Coaches Hall of Fame in 2011.
