Strong Fourth Quarter Carries Lady Spartans Past St. Cloud

The M State lady Spartans were tied at 40-40 with the St. Cloud Cyclones on Wednesday night as the two teams headed into the fourth quarter.  That quarter belonged to M State as they score 23 points to just 9 for St. Cloud, taking a 63-49 victory over the Cyclones at the Whitney Center in St. Cloud. 

 

Guards Jayna Gronewold (18 points, 4 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists) and Itzel Salazar (19 points, 10 rebounds) combined for 37 points in the game and only turned the ball over 4 times between them.  Mia Blaskowski added 14 points and four rebounds.  The lady Spartans shot 41% (23-56) from the floor and hit 6-of-19 (31.6%) 3-pointers. 

St. Cloud was led by Jenna Boos and Sarah Harris with 13 and 1 points, respectively.  Rylie DeMaine had a team high 9 rebounds and Ailee Fratzke had 8 pints and 7 boards.  Katelyn Lindberg contributed 9 points, 6 rebounds and 3 assists.  The Cyclones made only 27% (16-59) of their field goal attempts.

M State (12-10, 6-5 MCAC South) will host Minnesota North College - Itasca at 1:00pm Saturday in their final regular season game.
