Barnesville dominated the boards, 49-24, however 20 turnovers came back to haunt the Trojans as Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton recorded a 47-45 Heart O’ Lakes Conference victory on Tuesday night.

“Lost a tough one on the road tonight,” acknowledged Barnesville Head Coach Matt Askegaard.  “We turned the ball over with under 20 seconds to go and they were able to hit an off-balance shot to take the lead.  We took a quick timeout and only had four-tenths-of-a-second to get a shot, but it didn’t work out.”

Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton had a strong showing in the first half as they led 27-18 at the break.  “We played way too fast in the first half,” noted Coach Askegaard.  “The Rebels did a good job switching defenses on us and it really kept us off balance.  I guess that is what possibly forced us into some bad decision making.  We also didn’t let the game come to us and pressed a bit.  It’s a tough environment to play in.”

The Trojans had a good start to the second half, eventually tying the game and taking the lead.  They built the led to 7 at one point with under 4 minutes to go, but the Rebels ended the game on a 10-1 run and that proved to be the difference.

Gannon Bolgrean registered an impressive double-double with 18 points and 18 rebounds.  He also had 5 assists and 3 steals, to go along with a blocked shot.  Ethan Larson had a dozen rebounds and Zach Bredman dished out 5 assists.

“This one stings a bit, I am not going to lie as I feel bad for the boys,” concluded Askegaard.  “They have put in, and continue to put in, a great amount of time and hard work.  We have an opportunity on Friday as we host the Nuggets for Senior and Parents Night, our last regular season home game and conference game.”

Barnesville is now 16-7 overall and 9-2 in HOL play.

DGF (14-9, 9-2 HOL) has a conference road game at Frazee on Friday and a non-conference road contest Monday at Moorhead.

No DGF stats were reported.
