Battle Lake and Ashby clashed in a Little Eight Conference boys’ basketball battle on Tuesday night.  The Battlers were 75-69 winners in overtime.  The Arrows led 28-23 at the half, but Battle Lake out-scored them 36-31 in the second half to pull even a 59-59.  Battle Lake won the overtime 16-10 to post the victory.

"I've said it before but tonight was another one of those grind it out conference games,” commented Battle Lake Head Coach Brady Cameron.  “It was a back and forth game all night.  We couldn't get a shot to fall in the first half but our defense was very good all night and kept us in the game.  Finally in the second half we were able to get some shots to fall as well as getting ourselves to the FT line and Jack Mekalson put the offense on his back scoring 26 of his 38 points in the second half and overtime."

In addition to Mekalson’s 38 points, Braxtyn Cameron scored 13 points and dished out 3 assists.  Mason Dalluge had 13 rebounds, 5 assists, 3 steals and 7 points.  Aidan Heggem added 8 points and 12 rebounds to go along with 3 blocked shots, and Maddox Mekalson contributed 7 points, 5 rebounds and 2 assists.

Ashby was led by Kellen Dahlen (23 points, 11 rebounds), Traeton Nelson (17 points, 5 assists, 3 steals) and Easton Nelson (17 points, 9 rebounds, 7 assists, 2 steals).

Battle Lake (10-11, 7-8 LEC) will host Bertha-Hewitt on Friday night.

Ashby (8-15, 5-9 LEC) will travel to Parkers Prairie for a Little Eight Conference contest on Tuesday.
