The Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team found themselves trailing 23-8 late in the first half on Saturday afternoon in Willmar, when they finished the half on a 7-0 run to cut the deficit to 23-15 at the break.  The Otters out-scored the Cardinals 26-16 in the second half, escaping with a 41-39 victory.  Ruby Ellison was fouled while shooting a 3-point shot and went to the line with 1.6 seconds remaining and the Otters trailing 39-38.  Ellison calmly sank all 3 free throws to give the Otters the victory.

“I’m so proud of the girls for battling back after going down early,” stated Head Coach Josh Steer of the Otters.  “It was a very tough win against a very solid Conference and Section opponent.  The girls found a way to win and had tremendous effort and made huge plays down the stretch.  Amazing to see Ruby Ellison step to the line and knock down all 3 free throws to capture the lead, 41-39, with 1.6 seconds left.”

Fergus Falls won the rebounding battle, 33-30, but struggled in their shooting, hitting only 28% of their field goal attempts and 24% of their 3’s.  They did make 10-of-11 free throws.

Brynn Sternberg registered a double-double (20 points, 10 rebounds).  Ellison and Hattie Fullhart contributed 6 points each.  Julia Hajicek came up with 7 rebounds and Bella Anderson finished with 5.

Fergus Falls (16-8, 7-5 CLC) has won 3 straight games.  They will host Sauk Rapids-Rice on Tuesday and will play their final regular season game on Friday at Alexandria.
