In a tightly contested matchup of the #6 and #7 ranked teams in state, the Perham Yellowjackets came out on top 57-52 over the Pelican Rapids Vikings. The Jackets jumped out front early but a lull in the first half saw the Vikings go into halftime ahead 27-25.

“The second half was back in fourth, but Willow Thiel started exerting her dominance on the block, aided by some great passes by Ryleigh Mickelson and Kennedy Pilgrim,” said Perham Head Coach TJ Super. “The Vikings wouldn’t go away, though, and the game was tied with 45 seconds left and Pelican had the basketball. Mickelson did what she does best and forced a turnover. The Jackets got into offense and Kennedy Pilgrim found Kaia Anderson for a wide open 3 that she cashed with just over 10 seconds left. Morgan Korf’s deep 3 fell short and Thiel knocked in 2 more free throws and it was over.”

Thiel scored 30 points to lead Perham, and Pilgrim added 10.  Anderson chipped in with 8.

Korf matched Thiel’s output, finishing with 30 points, while adding 4 rebounds and 3 assists.  Grace Backstrom (9 points, 6 rebounds), Ellie Welch (11 rebounds, 4 steals) and Claudia Gurath (8 rebounds) led the Vikings.

With the win, Perham and Pelican share the conference title with records of 10-2. Perham swept the season series but because of overall conference record it ends in a tie. It is the 3rd straight HOL CONFERENCE championship for Perham.
