Steckler Turns in 24 Point, 14 Rebound Performance as Spartans Fall at Ridgewater

The M State Men’s Basketball team traveled to Willmar on Wednesday where they fell to Ridgewater Community College, 99-84, in a MCAC Southern Division contest.  The loss drops the Spartans to 13-12 overall and 5-7 against Southern Division opponents.  Ridgewater led 46-42 at the half and out-scored the Spartans 53-42 in the second half.

 

Five Warriors finished in double figures with Marwan Abdi leading the way with 21 points and 7 rebounds.  Noah Wilts scored 19 points, snared 5 rebounds, came up with 3 steals and dished out a team high 8 assists.  Tanner Swanson contributed 16 points off the bench.  Aiden Wichmann scored 13 points, grabbed 8 boards, blocked two shots and dished out 4 assists, while Keegan Strider finished with 13 points, 5 assists, 2 steals and 3 rebounds.

Ridgewater shot 47.8% (33-69) from the field and hit 15-of-30 (50%) 3-point shots.  They also went 18-for-24 (75%) on the free throw line.

M State won the rebounding battle, 40-32, with Khamani Steckler leading the way with 14 boards.  He completed a double-double by scoring a game high 24 points on 10-of-17 shooting.  Mikele Kambalo (18 points, 5 rebounds, 4 assists, 4 steals), Javin Tindall (16 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists), and Belind Alemadi (11 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 3 steals) were also in double figures for the Spartans.  M State hit 45.5% (35-77) of their shots from the floor, but only connected on 4-of-17 (23.5%) 3-pointers.

The Spartans will close out their home schedule with a 3:00pm game against Rochester on Saturday.
