Underwood and Hancock played double overtime in a Little Eight Conference boys’ basketball contest on Tuesday night with the visiting Rockets coming out on top, 89-86.  The Rockets led 34-33 at the half.  Hancock hit a 3 at the buzzer in regulation to send the game to OT.  Down two with 0.6 seconds left, Hudson Risbrudt got fouled and went to the line and knocked down both free throws to send it to the second overtime.

“That was a great game and a fun atmosphere,” exclaimed Underwood Head Coach Kellen Shebeck.  “We have yet to have more than a one possession game with Hancock in two years.  It’s always a battle.  I’m very proud how our guys controlled what they can control, and just kept fighting against Hancock’s size and execution.  A very well-played game by both teams.  We knocked down some huge free throws in the game by multiple players, and I’m very happy with our effort and execution down the stretch.”

Drew Evavold and Hudson Risbrudt led the Rockets with 26 and 24 points, respectively.  Evan Lundgren added 14 points, Noah Link contributed 9 and Owen Harig finished with 8.  The Rockets hit 13 3-point field goals in the game from six different players.

Hudson VerSteeg led the Owls with 30 points.  Brayden Kisgen and Chase Evink were also in double figures, with 23 and 15 points, respectively.  Brayden Kisgen hit 6 of the 11 made 3’s by the Owls.  Evink and VerSteeg each secured 12 rebounds to complete their double-doubles and Brayden Kisgen added 11 assists for his double-double.  VerSteeg had 6 assists, Evink 5 and Rylan Meierding had 4 assists and 3 steals.

Underwood (14-9, 9-6 LEC) will play at Hillcrest on Friday night.

Hancock (10-11, 7-7 LEC) will host Border West on Friday.
