Barnesville traveled to Perham Thursday night and came out with a big 1-point win, 77-76 over the Yellowjackets. “We got down to start the game as the Jackets came out red hot in their own gym,” stated Barnesville Head Coach Matt Askegaard. “However, we didn't panic and put some stops together to get right back into the game and took a 4-point lead into the half at 37-33. Zach Bredman was huge for us in the first half by putting pressure on the rim as he broke down their defense.”

In the second half Perham hit some shots to close the gap, but the Trojans were able to build a 13-point lead midway through the second half. Gannon Bolgrean hit some big 3’s to help widen the gap.

Barnesville blistered the nets, hitting 65% of their field goal attempts and 42% of their 3-point attempts.  They also had a 25-16 edge on the boards.  Perham shot 55% and made 50% of their shots from beyond the arc.

Bolgrean finished the night with 31 points on 11-of-14 shooting, including 6-of-9 from the 3-point line.  He also had 4 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals.  Bredman added 24 points and 6 assists.  Ethan Larson scored 12 points and had 4 rebounds.

“We had a 10-point lead with about 5-6 minutes to go, but we just couldn't put the Yellowjackets away,” said Coach Askegaard. “After making a nice run of our own, Perham went on a run of their own to close the distance. With just under 2-minutes to go, they actually took a 3-point lead. However, we again didn't panic and were able to get 2 buckets and 3 stops to end the game. In the 3 stops, Perham didn't get a shot off.  It was a big win for us on the road as The Hive is always a tough place to play. We are now 16-5 overall and 9-0 in conference play and head to Pelican Rapids on Tuesday.”

Perham (5-15) will play at Breckenridge on Tuesday night.  The Yellowjackets have lost 4 games in a row.
