It was another nice win for the Perham Yellowjackets, as they picked up a 69-52 victory over the Breckenridge Cowgirls on Tuesday in a Heart O’ Lakes conference showdown in Breckenridge.

It was back and forth throughout the first half, but Perham clamped down defensively and held Breck scoreless for the last 4 minutes of the first half to take a 33-20 lead going into the break.

Breckenridge started the second half on a mini run but Perham quickly squashed it and extended their lead to around 20, which it remained for the majority of the game. The Jackets moved the ball really well, taking advantage of the constant double and triple team of Wiillow Thiel to knock down wide open threes, while still finding ways to get Willow touches.

Willow finished the night with 34 points and 15 rebounds. Cora Grismer added 13 and Kennedy Pilgrim and Ryleigh Mickelson each added 9.

The night belonged to Willow Thiel, as she came into the game needing 33 points to reach 2,000 points and she ended with 34. She becomes the first girl and 2nd overall player in Perham to reach 2,000 points. Of course, Willow also just recorded her 1,000th rebound in a game just over 3 weeks ago.

According to Matt Pederson, who is the guru of basketball stats in Minnesota:

  • There are just under 3,600 known girls with 1,000 points
  • There are 260 known girls with 1,000 rebounds
  • There are 79 known girls with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds

Willow just became the 80th known girl in MN history with 2,000 points and 1,000 rebounds. For the season, Willow is averaging about 29 ppg and 14 RPG.
