The Brainerd girls’ basketball team won for the tenth time in their last 11 games when they defeated Fergus Falls by the score of 64-50 on Tuesday night. The Warriors were leading 20-19 when they rattled off 14 straight points to increase their lead to 34-19. Their halftime advantage was 36-25.
“We got off to a good start, knocking down some shots, however, they had a good run late in the half to build their lead,” noted Head Coach Josh Steer of the Otters. “We finished with a small run to get to within eleven by halftime. We couldn’t buy a basket to start the second half and seemed to be a step-and-a-half behind on defense. Give credit to their offense as they moved the ball well. They are a strong, athletic team and they played very well tonight.”
Mya Tautges led Brainerd with 13 points. Addison Bjorklund and Brook Sandberg added 9 points each. Brained shot 46% from the field.
Ruby Ellison had 11 points to lead the Otters. Carlee Hirst contributed 9 points and 5 rebounds off the bench. Brynn Sternberg was held to 6 points, but led the team with 8 rebounds and 4 assists. Bella Anderson added 6 boards.
Fergus Falls fell to 13-8 overall and 4-5 in Central Lakes Conference play. The Otters will host St. Cloud on Friday night.
Brainerd goes to 16-4 overall and 7-3 in CLC action.
