The Fergus Falls girls’ basketball team gained control immediately on Friday night in Detroit Lakes as they scored the first 8 points of the game, built a 22 point first half lead, had a 20 point lead at the half and then succumbed to an amazing second half effort by the Lakers who went on to record a 46-43 win.

Brynn Sternberg hit three of the Otters six first half 3’s and led all scorers with 17 points as the Otters led 31 to 11 after the first half.  A box-and-one defense by the Lakers helped neutralize Sternberg in the second half as she scored just 7 second half points, giving her 24 on the night.

Fergus Falls led 36-18 when the Lakers went on a 13-0 run to cut the lead to five points at 36-31.  DL was able to tie the game for the only time at 41-41.  Trailing 43-42, the Lakers Karlee Mace hit a huge 3-poiner with 26.3 seconds to go and Ella Okeson added a free throw for the final point in their epic comeback.

The Otters went cold from the field after shooting the ball well in the first half, and Detroit Lakes heated up in the second half after an ice cold first half.

Fergus Falls (13-6) will host Brainerd on Tuesday.

Detroit Lakes improved to 11-9 on the season.  Their next game is next Friday at Staples-Motley.
